Update: Project Potato

While I'm still all for Veggie Drawer Gardening, I am walking away with mixed results. An update:

1) The Yukons That Sprouted 2 Weeks Ago: They've been planted outside for a week and don't smell like they're rotten. I am taking this as a good sign.

2) The Sweet Potato Experiment: Fail. We walked into the kitchen asking "what's that smell?" Question quickly switched to "what's that fuzz?" And then the compost pile had a new addition. I didn't cut it up or anything so it will be rolling around the bin while for months. Who knows, maybe that's actually how they reproduce.

3) Revenge of the 5 Pound Bag: I figured we'd surely eat them. Now they're growing. They're just regular brown potatoes, and I'm running out of room in the veggie patch, and it is not technically time to plant these fellas, but they are being SO insistant. I found they not only had sprouted, they were growing little roots out of the sprouts. I stuck them in water as a lark, and 24 hours later they're getting green leaves. I don't have the heart to eat them now, so here we go. I'll leave them in the nursery (water) for a bit more before they debut in the 'patch.

  1. Don't you love plants that grow themselves when you're not looking? I hope you find garden space for all of those wayward potatoes.
